How to fix NordVPN password verification failed ‘Auth’?

Let us take a look at what you can try to get rid of this error. Undoubtedly one of these fixes will do the trick for you.

Fix 1 – Allowing the NordVPN through your system’s security/firewall:

Sometimes an antivirus or the windows defender blocks out applications and prevents them from running if they feel that they might cause damage to the system. Security applications do take care of network security, and that might result in a firewall blocking your VPN’s access to the internet to establish a connection. So you can try adding exceptions to your firewall program or disabling it entirely.

  • Firstly, disable any antivirus program you have on your system by disabling the real-time protection. Furthermore, disable Windows defender, too, as even that may sometimes act up and block NordVPN’s access.
  • If you don’t want to disable your security program altogether, then add the following exceptions to your application. Then the program won’t be causing issues to NordVPN.

%ProgramFiles% (x86)\NordVPN\NordVPN.exe

%ProgramFiles% (x86)\NordVPN\nordvpn-service.exe

%ProgramFiles% (x86)\NordVPN\Resources\Binaries\64bit\openvpn-nordvpn.exe

%ProgramFiles% (x86)\NordVPN\Resources\Binaries\32bit\openvpn-nordvpn.exe

  • After disabling the security programs, or after adding exceptions to it, try logging in to your account again using your credentials. If the same error shows up, then try the next fix.

Fix 2 – Relogging into your NordVPN account:

Sometimes a simple log out and log in fixes the issue. You can do it on the extension, app, or program. For convenience, we will show you how to do it on the windows program. You can do the same with the app or extension following the same procedure as per the interface.

  • Open the NordVPN app and click on the gear(settings) icon in the interface.
  • This will open up the settings menu. Now on the left side of that window, there you will see the option Log Out at the end. Click on it
  • Restart your system and then try logging into your account again.

If the same error shows up again, try the next fix.

Fix 3 – Change your NordVPN password:

If you use special characters while setting up your password, or if many users have gained access to your account, then you can get this error. So to counter that, try changing your password and don’t share your new password with anyone again.

  • Open the NordVPN program and click on the gear(settings) icon in the interface.
  • This will open up the settings menu. Now on the left side of that window, there you will see the option Log Out at the end. Click on it
  • Open your web browser and go to the NordVPN login page.
  • Log in using your account credentials and then click on the option Change password. Click on Send Reset Link button you see at the bottom.
  • Open the email you have linked with your NordVPN account and then check for the password reset email from NordVPN. Open that email and click on the reset link provided there.
  • Now set the new password and remember not to use special characters with it.
  • Open up the NordVPN program on your system again and try logging into your account using the new login password.
