OnePlus recently launched its flagship for the year 2019, the OnePlus 7 and the 7 Pro, and oh boy there are making quite a few headlines. Most of them have been for good reasons but there are some issues that surfaced these new OnePlus devices. In this article, we will look at how to fix the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro won’t boot up after an update issue, that has been reported by some users.

If your new OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro won’t boot up after an update, it might be due to an OS glitch or bug that is causing it. Besides, at other times, the cause may be a bad app that you have installed probably from a third-party source. Moreover, it can also be due to interrupting an update process. How to Fix OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro Won’t Boot Up After an Update

Before we begin the fix and to avoid accidental shut down during an update, make sure that your phone has enough power, or it is connected to a charger. Do not proceed with this solution if the battery is low.

1. Drain the Remaining Battery Power

This is probably a fix that you would do without connecting your device to a charger. If your device is stuck or won’t boot up, the first thing you can do is to allow the device to lose power. If you are stuck on a boot screen, then you must switch off your device in the normal way. This fix might not work for everyone but its the best you can do as today’s smartphones have a non-removable battery. Note that don’t try to turn ON the phone only after a minute you powered it Off. Let the battery drain itself and that might revert back the OS to its workable condition.

2. Charge the Device

Another temporary fix might be to charge up your device. If the device won’t boot up after an update, it might be due to the battery consumption during the update. Sometimes, update take up a long time in order to fully install the OS on your device. This would definitely drain the battery in your phone. So, hook up a charger and wait for 30 minutes and then check whether the device boots up or not.

3. Perform Soft Reset

This is probably what users with some tech knowledge will do. Performing a soft reset is one of the basic things you should do in order to reboot your device if it does not boot up. Basically, it imitates the procedure of removing the battery like you used to do on your older smartphones that had a detachable battery. To perform soft reset follow the steps mentioned below;

  • Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons for about 10 seconds.
  • Once the phone has restarted, release the buttons.

It can reset your device by clearing bugs and might restore your device in a workable condition.

4. Restart the Safe Mode

If your phone was working fine, before the update then you might want to remove the bad or poorly coded app that has installed by the last update. You need to boot to Safe Mode by following the below steps;

  • Press and hold the Power button until the Power off window appears, then release.
  • Touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode prompt appears and after that release the buttons.
  • To confirm, tap Safe mode.
  • The process may take up to 30 seconds to complete.
  • After reboot is done, “Safe mode” appears in the lower-left of the home screen.

If your phone manages to boot up to Safe Mode then, your device is working good and a third-party app might be causing it.

5. Boot to Recovery Mode

If the problem is with the software then, you need something more complex method other than Safe Mode. There are two things that you can do if your phone boots up to recovery mode. Either you can clear the cache partition and if it does no good then you can proceed for factory resetting the phone by following the below-mentioned steps;

  • Turn off the device. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up button at the same time.
  • While still holding the Volume Up, press and hold the Power button.
  • The Recovery screen menu will now appear. When you see this, release the buttons.

If the Wipe cache partition does not work then, you can go ahead and select the Wipe data/Factory reset option.
