How to Flush DNS Cache in Windows 11?
DNS Cache is a file containing information such as the hostnames and IP addresses of the websites the user visits. The caches are stored in the host computer and the servers of the Internet Service Provider.
The problem of sites not loading up properly arises when the IP address of a web page saved in the cache changes before the cache can store the update. Due to the mismatch between the site and the cache, the page fails to load up. But this can be cleared out quite easily by flushing out all the cache information from the computer. After that, new data will be accumulated as a cache, and this will be the updated one.
So now, let’s get into the details.
Here, we have mentioned three ways you can use to clear out the DNS cache in your Windows 11 computer.
Using the Windows Command Prompt:
- Click on the Windows search bar and enter “command prompt.” It will show up in the results. Click on “Run as administrator” here.
- Once the command prompt window opens, enter the following command and press Enter.
ipconfig /flushdns
- Now a process will initiate. Once that process is complete, you will see a message on the command prompt window saying that the task was complete.
Using Windows PowerShell:
Let’s see how one can do this using the PowerShell
- Click on the Windows search bar and enter “PowerShell” It will show up in the results. Click on “Run as administrator” here.
- Once the PowerShell window opens up, enter the following command and press Enter.
Clear-DnsClientCache
- The process will initiate, and your DNS cache will be cleared up.
Using the Run command:
Now, let’s see how we can clear the DNS cache using the Run command.
- Press Windows Key + R to open up the Run dialog box.
- Enter “ipconfig /flushdns” in the dialog and click on Ok.
- This will clear the DNS cache on your Windows 11 computer.
Clear DNS Cache on Chrome:
The Chrome browser maintains its DNS cache. So clearing out the DNS cache from your Windows 11 OS is not enough. You need to clear the cache from Chrome as well.
- Open up the Chrome Web Browser.
- In the URL bar of the Chrome window, enter the address “chrome://net-internals/#dns ” and press the Enter key.
- A page will load up on your Chrome window where you will see the button “Clear host cache.” Click on this button.
And this will clear out the DNS Cache from your Chrome browser too.
