Steps to Free Up Storage on a Fire TV Stick or any Fire TV Device

  • First, check if you’re actually low on storage. To do this, go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Storage.
  • This will show you how much space is free on your device. Proceed with the remaining steps if the settings prove you’re really low on storage.
  • Go to the Home section of your device by pressing the “Home” button on your remote
  • Now, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications.
  • Here, you’ll see the list of all the downloaded applications.
  • Use up and down on your remote to scroll through the apps. When an application is highlighted, you’ll see its storage details on the right side of the screen.
  • The “Size” shows the total data consumed by the particular application
  • “Application” shows how much data is taken only by the application itself.
  • “Data” refers to the amount of space taken up by the application’s internal functions. This can be image, videos, etc downloaded within the application.
  • “Cache” is the temporarily stored data by the application.
  • To free up space:
  • Locate the apps with the most cache data consumed. Select it and clear its cache
  • Locate the apps you don’t use much. Select it and clear its data
  • Locate the apps you never use or don’t need anymore. Select it and delete/uninstall the application completely.
  • Repeat the process until you can sort out enough storage for whatever reason it may be.

To ensure the smooth working of the device, you should always leave free a part of your device’s storage. This ensures that the software doesn’t get into a puzzle when it carries out the functions. Freeing up the storage will also help in a less likely chance for application to crash or data to corrupt. That said, follows the steps carefully and ensure you do not put a lot upon your device. Still, if the problem doesn’t solve, you can fix any issue by resetting back to factory settings.
